FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone because I’m used to talking to God or handling things on my own. Is psychotherapy for me?

Psychotherapy is for anyone who wants to gain a greater understanding of the underlying reasons for their own behavior in order to do things differently. Insight oriented psychotherapy offers long-lasting change in the way you see yourself in the world so you can live a happier, more satisfying life. This includes feeling able to tackle any problems or challenges you are facing. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help at times.

Can I just take medication?

Medication can be effective in providing symptom relief but it does not address the underlying issues that led to the symptoms. Psychotherapy or Christian Counseling will uncover the root cause of your symptoms while you work to alleviate them. In some instances, medication may be needed in conjunction with therapy.

Do you really keep everything private?

Yes. Mental health professionals are bound by legal and ethical standards for confidentiality. Except in rare circumstances, in which confidentiality can be broken. Your therapist will explain this further during your first session.

How long are sessions?

Sessions often occur weekly and are 50 minutes long.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, treatment will be different depending on the individual. Therapy is collaborative and often requires a tailored therapeutic approach.

How long will it take?

Every individual’s circumstances are unique and the length of treatment varies. So how long you are in therapy will depend on your goals, your desire for personal growth, healing, your overall commitment level, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
